'Loving husband, father and grandfather'
WATERBURY – Francesco Guerrera, age 88, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria Grazia (Rinaldi) Guerrera for 66 years.
Francesco was born in Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italy on Sept. 29, 1933, a son of the late Rocco and Nicolina (Guerrera) Guerrera. He emigrated from Italy to Montreal, Canada, and in 1969 he came to Waterbury. While in Montreal, he worked as a repairman for the ice breaker, CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent.
When Francesco came to Waterbury, he worked as a machine operator for Anchor Fasteners and Perfection Screw before retiring in 1999. He was an active member of the Pontelandolfo Community Club and he could be seen volunteering at the Ponte festivals making the pizzelle.
At the Ponte Club, he also enjoyed playing cards and boccie. He was an avid gardener, winemaker and mushroom hunter. He grew beautiful fig trees and adored his cat, Dory.
Besides his wife, Maria Grazia of Waterbury, Francesco leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Enrico A. Guerrera and his wife Margaret, of Watertown, Rocco Guerrera and his wife Rita, of Prospect; sister, Giuseppina Guerrera of Montreal, Canada; five grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Alexa, Brian and Noelle; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Antonio and Mario Guerrera and sisters, Margarita and Anunziata Guerrera.
His funeral will be on Thursday, April 21, 2022, 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Loreto Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Members of the Pontelandolfo Community Club will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
